Key Steps Overview

The State Medical Board of Ohio’s purpose is to protect the public and we have a responsibility to evaluate every complaint received. To read about the complete details and learn about administrative hearings, click here.
Public Hearing:
Genetic Counselor Rules
A public hearing on proposed rules will be conducted on February 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lobby Hearing Room, Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 1st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215. Oral and written testimony may be presented by any person affected by the proposed rules.

Chronic & Subacute Pain Opioid Prescription Regulations

Ohio prescribers should be following the new regulations when prescribing opioids for the treatment of chronic pain (lasting 12 weeks or more) and subacute pain (lasting between six and 12 weeks). The specific requirements can be found in Ohio Administrative Code 4731-11. Ohio’s new rules will not take away medication for those in need, but instead strengthen communication between physicians and patients by establishing check points for additional assessment.
